2019.5.20 丸亀城
日本の城の天守のうち、江戸時代またはそれ以前に建設され、現代まで保存されている天守（現存天守）は、たった12箇所しかありません。その１つ、標高66ｍの亀山に建つ丸亀城（別名、亀山城、蓬莱城）。12天守の中では１番小さいですが、360度、お堀に囲まれ、高い石垣の上に建つ姿は素晴らしいです。
There are only twelve castle towers left in Japan which were built in the Samurai period (Edo era or before). Marugame Castle, also known as Kameyama Castle and Horai Castle, is one of them. It is not so big but very beautiful, situated on a hill called Mt. Kameyama (66 meters high) surrounded by a moat in a plain in Marugame, Kagawa Prefecture.

現存12天守の中では最少の丸亀城。
天守最上部は、こじんまりとしています。
The highest floor of the Maruyama Castle Tower. So small but you can enjoy 360° panoramic views.

堀のすぐ向こうに白い屋上と黒い屋上の二つビルとその向こう側の細長いビルが、丸亀大手前中学・高等学校です。
なんと、知り合いが、こちらの学校の出身。学生時代は、1周2㎞の城の堀周りを走っていたそうで…感慨深いです。因みに皇居は一周5㎞。

To my astonishment my close acquaitance graduated from the school and he used to run around the castle (2 km around).

1587年に建てられた丸亀城は、1615年の一国一城令により破却の危機にさらされました。高松藩は、当時、讃岐国（現香川県）すべてを領有していたため、高松城を残してすべての城を破却したと幕府に報告しましたが、時の藩主・生駒正俊（生駒氏は後にお家騒動で秋田へ）は、丸亀城の要所要所を樹木で覆い隠し立ち入りを厳しく制限して城を守ったとのこと。生駒正俊すごい！因みに、高松藩は松平家の代になり、半国の東讃岐だけとなりました。
西讃岐は、山崎家治が肥後国（熊本）より5万石で入封。丸亀藩が立藩。山崎氏が、キリシタン蜂起に備えるためか、幕府の援助で城改修。今の形となったとのこと。ところが、跡取りができずにお家改易。 1658年、播磨国（兵庫）より京極高和が6万石で入封。以後、明治時代まで京極氏の居城となりました。実際の現存天守が完成したのは、1660年とのこと。
The roots of Marugame Castle lie in 1587. It was reported to be dismantled in 1615 due to a shogunal decree that each province could have only one castle. The load of the Takamatsu Domain, Ikoma Kazumasa decided to keep Takamatsu Castle and dismantle Marugame Castle. But he struggled to hide Marugame Castle with woods and suceeded in reserving it. Great!

淀殿の妹の初は、浅井長政の甥の京極高次に嫁ぎ、その孫（初とは血のつながりはない）の孝和が、江戸時代に初代丸亀藩主になります。7代藩主の京極朗徹（あきゆき）が、廃藩置県により、丸亀県知事となりました。
2018年7月の集中豪雨と台風の影響で、帯曲輪石垣と三の丸の石垣の一部は崩落してしまったということ。これほど歴史的に貴重で素晴らしい石垣が崩落したという事実を、ここに来て初めて知りました。応援募金の掲示がありましたが、報道はもちろん、SNSなどを使って事実を伝え、もっと広く募金活動ができないのかと思ったほどです。

It says since the castle was hit by the torrential rain and a typhoon in July, 2019, some of the western side of stone walls, such as walls with beautiful inverted arch on the upper parts, were destroyed. They have asked for donations.
I didn't know this disaster at all. I think Marugame Castle is historically so important that the fact should be reported by the press, TV and SNS more often.
