以下、日本政府観光局（JUTO)の通訳案内士試験で出題された問題から引用しました。（JUTOの公式ページからも閲覧できます。）

    
問題：日本語で書かれた内容を、英語で端的に表現しなさい。

平成27年度（2015）１次試験より。（実際の問題は、４択）
   日本語 日本では、家に入るときには靴を脱ぎます。 
英語 In Japan, people take off their shoes when they enter a house.

日本では/人々は彼らの靴を脱ぎます/彼らが家に入る時に。

*選択肢は、紛らわしいものが多いです。「日本語の内容を端的に！」という指定なので、上記の英語が正解でした。記述問題ならば、以下でも可?

→It-to構文、（次のことが）日本では習慣です/（あなたの）靴を脱ぐことが/家に入る前に。

*選択肢は紛らわしいので注意が必要。日本語では、「～しました」となっていても、現在にも当てはまることを過去形にするのは誤りです。記述問題ならば、以下でも可？

The New Hokuriku Line has enabled the people in Kanazawa and Toyama/ to take a day trip easily.
北陸新幹線は金沢と富山の人々を可能にしました/簡単に日帰り旅行をすることを。

*drive=（自動車の）道のり
*two hours' drive=a two-hour drive=車で２時間の道のり
*The park is a two-hour drive from here.
公園は、ここから車で２時間の道のりです。→車で２時間かかります。


「渋滞」の表現
→主語を何にするかで使う形容詞などが違うことに注意！
*traffic=交通（量）
(The) traffic is heavy on the street.交通量はその通りでは多い。
(The) traffic is light on the street.交通量はその通りでは少ない。

I was stuck in the trafic jam for five hours.
→私は５時間交通渋滞で、動けなくされました。→渋滞にはまった

この通りは年中渋滞しています。
→This street is always congested.
*congest=ｺﾝｼﾞｪｽﾄｩ=～を混雑させる
→This street is always crowded.
*crowded=ｸﾗｳﾃﾞｨｯﾄﾞｩ=込み合った（⇔empty)、満員の
→This street is always busy.
*busy=人・車が多い、にぎやかな（⇔quiet閑散とした)
   日本語 姫路城に着きましたよ。城壁の白さと鷺が羽を広げて飛び立つように目るため別名白鷺城とも呼ばれています。
英語 Here we are at Himeji Castle, also called White Heron Castle.
This is because the castle has white walls and looks like a white bird flying into the sky with its wings spread wide.
解説 ここは分詞を使った表現が多いので注意！

S call O Cの受け身の形なので、calledの後にas は不要

   日本語 高尾山は新宿から電車でほんの一時間ほどです。そんなに高い山ではなく、標高は600メートルほどで、ケーブルカーやリフトで中腹まで行くことができます。
